WIZWAR
Mortals v Wizzes 21st November 1999
Background
A while ago, ten of the wizzes took on sorcerised form to fight
the combined masses of the entire mortal population of the Land
at once. Despite meticulous planning they were hammered into
the ground. This painful experience prompted people to suggest
a fairer contest, with even numbers on either side.
Karya the witch organised the contest in conjunction with
Fruitbat initially, and then Tom (both mortals). Karya offered
up as many Wizzes as she could find to take part, and the mortals
agreed to match them. The mortal team were selected by popular
vote on the mud2 bulletin board.

(For shorthand, just note that the mortal team took a
musical theme, and the wizzes took illnesses.)
The start
Richard the arch-wizard opened another session of the game
to hold the event at 9pm, and everyone piled in. As usual in large
scale events in mud2 various people took the view that the rules
applied to everyone except themselves :) A couple of mortals
tried to gatecrash their way onto the mortal team (in hindsight
perhaps even this wouldn't have helped), and the odd player (wiz!)
sneaked out past the Tearoom guards and had to be fodded by Cat.
Go!!!
Severe lag afflicted the first 20 or 30 minutes, which was a shame.
Cat appeared apprehensive that the game might crash, and banned
people from speaking in the tearoom until the game speeded up a bit,
when he relented, and also provided a commentary for those patient
enough to wait for some action.

The first death was that of a Wizard. Halitosis fodded himself to
Tomjones. He said he was too sick of the lag to continue playing, but
whatever the reason the mortals were leading 1-0.

Syphilis then took Fufighters to his death, which suprised no-one:)
Syphilis had lost his magic at this point, and went through much
of the fighting as a champion.

Things seemed fairly evenly balanced at this point. Although the mortal
team had started with the advantage of an additional player, this was
not to last long. Bewitched and Tomjones were caught in battle somewhere
near the north mountain. They seemed to be holding their own, when
pretty much the entire Wiz team turned up and bundled them both. Tomjones
managed to flee, but Bewitched was re-attacked en masse and
the death blow went to Psychosis. (Typhoid hunted the weakened Tomjones
down in the maze of hedges and slew him shortly afterwards.)

The score was now 3-1 to the Wiz team, and they never looked back.
The mortals were deprived of their morale and organising capacity and
never looked like staging a come back.
Willsmith lost his magic and became a superhero, later accidentally
quitting, (He would probably have died anyway, but quitting meant he
forfeited his life), Typhoid nailed Faithless in the south dale and
Syphilis finally risked the touchstone and survived.

Ebola went on a one man expedition to hunt down the wounded of the
mortal team, catching Chuckberry completely by suprise in the dark
depths of the dwarf mine, and finishing off Defleppard-the-continually-fleeing.

Something slightly weird now happened, which kind of distracted me
from the main battle. Pneumonia and Syphilis fought in the hut. This
ended with Syphilis fleeing, but Typhoid then joined in, re-attacking
like a maniac until Syphilis kicked the bucket. Bear in mind that
these players were all on the same team....

The surviving three mortals - Genesis, Deadbeats and Bobmarley had in
the meantime managed to scuttle away to safety in the crypt. At least,
they thought that they were safe there...Malaria managed to infiltrate
their hiding place and proceeded to pound their cowardly hides, while
at the same time admitting the entire wiz team...Influenza killed
Genesis on the spot, though the other two mortals managed to flee.
Sadly in the course of all this excitement Malaria blew his magic
and subsequently was erased by the touchstone attempting to get it
back.

The final two mortals were Deadbeats (slain by Measles), and
Bobmarley (slain by Typhoid). The final score 10-3 to the Wizzes.
None of the Wizzes died directly to enemy action. The wizzes were
content that they had erased the foul slur on their skills left
by the last wiz-mortal combat (and if truth be told, quite smug:).

Roughly twenty minutes of the reset remained when the last mortal died.
